Stories of Idaho's Working Lands

A Summit to Explore the Interconnected Relationship Between Humans and the Land

Twin Falls, September 29-30, 2025

Partner With Us to Share the Stories of Idaho's Working Lands

Who We Are

The Idaho Humanities Council (IHC) is a non-profit organization serving as the state-based partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

We are dedicated to serving Idaho citizens by promoting greater public awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the humanities.

Our mission is to provide opportunities to deepen public understanding of human experience by connecting people with ideas.

The vision of the IHC is that the humanities inspire a more literate, tolerant and intellectually inquisitive Idaho citizenry, better able to embrace life’s possibilities.

Our guiding principles:

  • We believe that the humanities should be open, accessible, and welcoming to all Idahoans.
  • We believe that every story contributes to a deeper understanding of being human.
  • We believe that respectful communication provides opportunities to learn new perspectives.
  • We believe that curiosity about the variety of expressions of the human spirit teaches us the value of our differences.

What

Stories of Idaho’s Working Lands is a summit bringing together communities from agriculture and the humanities. Every Idahoan is incredibly proud that our agricultural communities feed the planet!  We want to tell those stories and celebrate that legacy.

When & Where

September 29-30th, 2025 at the College of Southern Idaho

Why

Idaho Ag is central to our history and culture. Agriculture is facing issues that need solutions from the humanities. We need each other and it is time to come together.

We hope this will be the first of a regular event with these important goals:

  1. Bring together scholars and students in the humanities and agriculture to explore the interconnected relationship between humans and the land.
  2. Encourage study and reflection on the central issues and challenges facing rural communities.
  3. Share the stories of how Idaho families are feeding the world through generations of diverse communities working the land.
  4. Bring Idahoans together across political divides to appreciate and recognize the contributions of Idaho Ag to our history and culture.
  5. Build a uniquely diverse audience drawn from the agricultural and humanities communities including academia, students, agribusiness, the public, and more.
