Major Grant Guidelines
IHC’s major grants are focused on planning and supporting public programs or projects that draw on history, culture, literature, and the humanities to ignite conversations with the public. Major grants have an award size of up to $4,000, which may be reduced by IHC board of directors during their review.
Major grants require a letter of inquiry and budget, due on April 1, 2026. The final draft is due on May 1, 2026.
Your letter of inquiry should include a brief description of your proposed project or program, the intended audience, and a list of humanities scholars and project personnel. Your letter should also explain how your proposed project/program exemplifies, demonstrates, or promotes a greater awareness of the humanities in Idaho.
Your budget should briefly describe how IHC funds will be spent on allowed costs and how cost-share will be matched.
Goals of major grants include:
- Exploring the human experience
- Supporting Idaho’s vibrant cultural organizations across the state
- Connecting Idahoans through a variety of topics
Examples of projects include:
- Exhibits
- Local history projects
- Discussion programs
- Lectures
Currently, the IHC’s target audience is the out-of-school adult public.
