Idaho Humanities Council Awards $13,505 in Grants in Winter 2025

The Idaho Humanities Council has awarded $13,505 to fifteen Idaho organizations and schools Since October 2024. The fifteen awards include nine Action Grants, five K-12 grants, and one Humanities for All grant. The grants were supported in part by funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Action Grants: ($8,088)

Magic Valley Arts Council, Twin Falls, received $1000 for their project, Indi Pop-Up Lens Series. This film festival series will host screenings of film documentaries produced by PBS’s Emmy-Award winning Independent Lens series.

Mountain Home Arts Council, Mountain Home, received $1000 for their project, MHAC Presents Living Voices: Home Front/War Front Fly for Freedom. They plan to bring a historical multimedia program featuring the little-known stories and contributions of working women in the World War II aeronautics industry.

Idaho State Museum, Boise, received, $1000 for their project, Glocal Impact: From Idaho and Beyond with Dr. Sydney Freeman. During their public event Dr. Freeman will discuss his experiences as a UN scholar from Idaho.

Canyon County Historical Society, Nampa, was awarded $495 for their project, College of Idaho Spring Internship. They will have a student from the College of Idaho select artifacts and create an exhibition from artifacts within the Canyon County Historical Society’s collection.
The Idaho Songs Project was awarded $993 for their project, Historically-based songs and Poems of the Hells Canyon Region. They will conduct additional research from archives in the Hells Canyon region and produce a recorded CD of historic Idaho songs.

The Cabin, Boise, was awarded $1000 for their project, The Cabin Presents Rick Steves. The Cabin will bring travel writer Rick Steves to share insights from his latest memoir, On the Hippie Trail: Istanbul to Kathmandu and the Making of a Travel Writer, chronicling his transformative journey along the iconic Hippie Trail in 1978 at the age of 23.

Sun Valley Performing Arts Center, Ketchum, was awarded $1000 for their project, Ken Waldman. Waldman will perform his ‘Now Entering Alaska Time’ solo show that combines fiddle tunes, smart original poetry, and Alaska-set storytelling. He will also lead a free creative writing workshop.

Boise State University, Boise, was awarded $1000 for their project, Intercultural Living Library. Students run an event where other students and community members have the opportunity to learn about community members with unique or interesting backgrounds.
Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, Boise, was awarded $600 for their project, Dig into Geodes. During this event, members of the public will learn about mining through hands-on activities involving geodes.

Humanities for All: ($1000)

IHC’s Humanities for All Grants are focused on making programs or collections more accessible to Idahoans.
Rexburg Community Theatre, Rexburg, was awarded $1000 for their project, Closed Caption Services for Live Rexburg Community Theatre: Shakespeare in the Park. They will provide closed caption services during their upcoming community production.

K-12 Grant: ($4417)

The Idaho Humanities awarded $4,417 across five different projects to support humanities education in Idaho.
